With all the hype surrounding the PS4 and Xbox One, which one is the better console, who's selling more and all that jazz. So it's easy to forget about Nintendo. The 3DS has sold 11.5 million units in total, while software sales went up 45% when compared to last year.
In the UK the 3DS became the best selling game device of the UK for 2013. Sales are continuing to be strong with the release of the 2DS and 3DS XL. I expect that the 3DS will continue to climb in sales thanks to a particularly strong line-up for 2014. Hopefully, the Wii U can achieve the same feat within the next year.
It's not a secret that Nintendo has taken a beating with the Wii U, the biggest hurtle is getting developers to make games on the machine, and not rely solely on first party software. the 3DS had a very slow start and is now finally picking up. Nintendo knows what their problem is, and hopefully can fix it, so there can be a lot more competition, which leads to better games and features.
