Lets face it, if you grew up in the 90's to the early 2000s, we had the best kids show ever. Between the new shows coming out and the shows during the 70's being replayed it was the best time to watch TV as a kid, It was great for parents too, just put your kid down and leave them alone why they stared at the TV endlessly. There was still some enjoyment to be had if you were adult being forced to watch it with them. I bet if you went back and re-watched some of these shows, You'd understand why you're parents laughed. That's why most of these shows made on to the list, because a decade later you can watch your favorite episode again, and laugh at it for completely different reasons.
My Top Ten Cartoons of My Childhood:
1. Dexter's Laboratory
Coming in at my Number One favorite cartoon show in history, Dexter's Laboratory was the champion for nerdy kids everywhere. He was anti conformist and fought against his mainstream ballerina sister Dee Dee. He was funny, had such a short fuse and his voice was epic!(Actually voiced by a girl.) The show only ran 4 seasons, and is possibly the most underrated show in Cartoon Network's history. The best episode ever created( I forget the name of it) But it involved him and his entire family teaming up and controlling a huge power ranger type mech thing. It was awesome that's all you need to know. The show ran from 1996 and ended in 2003, a decade later a TV special was made for the series.
2.Scooby Doo
If you don't like Scooby Doo then i must ask, what is wrong with you and how can i help? Probably one of the most iconic characters in American television history, pepole love Scooby Doo, heck even i love Scooby still. One of the best crime Mysteries ever made and i have no shame in saying that. Who dosen't like a talking dog. Shaggy was undoubtedly my favorite, he was a cool hippie, and you could tell he was high all the time. I mean those Scooby snacks probably were "Special" Scooby snacks. Dapanie and Velma were hot and Fred...well Fred was Fred. I still love those awful movies that were made, I thought the cast was absolutely perfect. My favorite episode was one of the older ones, that involved the different colored phantoms. The show was first aired in 1969 on CBS since then there's been over 11 cartoon series produced around the characters. but my favorite two has to be the original series Scooby Doo Where Are You? and the 1983 revival The New Scooby Doo Mysteries.
3.Rugrats
You can't make a list like this and not include the Rugrats. This was originally my first pick for number one, but then i thought everyone would expect that and i got to thinking and i did have some problems with the show. I mean Philip and Lillian got so obnoxious sometimes and Tommy was a little douche bag sometimes. Still, this is one of the greatest shows ever, and Chucky is one of the best cartoon characters ever. I adore, the movies as well, Rug-rats Goes To Paris is the best one...just so everyone knows. The show ran for 9 seasons and proved to be one of the most successful kids shows ever. Where is my Reptar spin off? it aired from 1991 to 2004
4.Spongebob
Spongebob is a perfect example of going back and watching it, and being completely shocked that they ever aired it on a kids network. When i was younger and more naive it was hard to imagine why everyone made such a big stink about the show. But looking back it, now i understand...the show is pretty inappropriate, and still one of the most popular kids shows. I loved this show as i kid, i never once missed an episode, and I'd often watch the same episode over and over. The movie is perfection and there is something so charming about this little Yellow guy, that you just kind of fall in love with him any away. A little known fact about Spongbob is, it originally aired on adult swim, but it failed horribly so they retooled it and moved it over to Nickelodeon, and kept some of its more Adult oriented DNA. The show first aired in 1999 and still airs today, with it's 10 season expected to come in 2014.
5.Invader Zim
One of the most underrated show on this list, Invader Zim stuck a cord with me. He was eccentric, hot headed and hell bent on enslaving man kind in order to please his race, from which he was banished from. You root for him the whole time, there is something so lovable about Zim and his pet Gir that keeps you hanging on to every moment this show has to offer, maybe that's because the show ended pre-maturely or the character is great. Whatever the case may be the show is highly enjoyable. The show was canceled before it could finish it's full production only 23 of it's 46 planned episodes aired. The show had a re-run on Nicktoons in 2010 and was the second highest rated show on the network, and a revival was discussed, however it was decided that a revival would be too expensive. You suck Nickelodeon. The show has gained a strong cult following, which keeps hope alive that we will see a return of our alien friend.
6.Jimmy Neutron
On December 21st a animated kids movie was released , and that animated kids movie was Jimmy Neutron. From the moment I saw that movie, at the tender age of 7 on the now obsolete pay-per-view, I was hooked. When the movie was finally turned into an animated series I was probably the first person in the entire world to tune and watch the first episode. Jimmy Neutron along with Spongebob has the biggest impact on me as a child, I'd watch both shows all day, every day. The show ran from 2002 to 2006, out of those years the show has produced some of my most beloved TV episodes, such as Operation:Rescue Jet Fusion, the fairly odd parents crossover and the TV movie, Win! Lose and Kaboom!
7.Blues Clues
I love blues clues, let me be clear, i love blue clues when STEVE was on it, not that Joe crap get him off my show. Seriously though, when i was 4 or 5 blues clues was were it's at. I watched this show daily and really paid close attention to what the shows subject matter was. To be honest, I don't remember much about it, I know I stopped watching it after Steve left, but the only episode that really stuck out, was the episode were they taught you about the colors and how mixing different colors made a different color..my mind was blown. Blue, the dog has had an enormous impact on popular culture. Steve Burns the original host left to pursue music after 100 episodes taped. He was replaced by Joe. The show ran from 1996 to 2006.
8.CrashBox
Crashbox is a little know animated kids show, that aired on HBO. This show is awesome, even still to this day. The show consists of different segments, that aim to teach you about math and various other subjects. The show is mostly a trivia show, were you can test your skills. It's addicting and fun, and sometimes funny. The show ran for two season. On April 1st 2000 it aired it's final episode. It remained as a re-run on HBO kids, and you could watch it on demand. Another series that's underrated, it's weird that HBO tried to move into the kids space, as the people who actually order HBO are adults. Still, I'm glad that they did, as I've enjoyed countless hours of watching this show.
9.Tom & Jerry
Tom & Jerry, have to be one of America's most iconic TV characters. The characters themselves pre-dating the U.S involvement in WW2. They were originally produced for theaters between 1940 to 1957 the famous Hanna-Barbera produced the animated series originally. In the 60's Tom & Jerry left Hanna-Barbera's production until it returned back in the 1970's, in the 80's it left them again and returned yet again in the 90's and it now sits in the hands of Warner Brothers. The show is a classic, and there are so many outstanding episodes it's hard to pick one, though my favorite is the episode in which they are in Space, a very 70's episode indeed. The show is currently getting a revival and we may see more Tom & Jerry, in the future. Though, I don't think it'll be as good or have the same impact as the older episodes.
10.Codename: Kids Next door
And so we conclude with Kids Next Door a show featuring a group of kid super spies. This is one of the best shows ever produced by Cartoon Network...no seriously. The show is perfect in every way. It's funny, silly, smart and has enough action to hold your attention. I would watch this show religiously alongside Spongebob and Jimmy Neutron. The best episode this series had was the episode where their tree house was being attacked by lice. This turned into a zombie-like parody. The show ran for 6 seasons airing it's final episode on January 21st 2008. I hope one day this show will return as I feel like this show will never get old.
