If this decade is to be known by anything, it will be known as the decade of the nerds. With huge success of Marvel's expanded cinematic universe and DC looking to compete. Classic franchises such as Terminator,Independence Day and Jurassic Park returning. Star Wars returning to the big screen, Star Trek has returned to the mainstream public. Video games as slinking their way to be adapted to movies, With Warcraft,Need For Speed and Assassin's Creed, chief among them. The Mass Effect movie is still in planning stages and there is recently rumored new life being breathed into a Halo film.
Let's face it fellow nerds, this is going to be a great decade for us. Now we can add the ever popular Magic: The Gathering card game to our list. Hasbro and Fox are looking to bring the property to life. Putting in the same scale as Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings. It seems like they are betting on this being a huge franchise.
Fox has tasked writer/producer Simon Kinberg to bring the film to life. Kinberg has been pretty busy, working on X-Men Days Of Future Past, X-Men apocalypse and wrote a revised draft of the Fantastic Four Reboot. Also, he's producing a animated Star Wars series for Disney XD. It's interesting to see how much effort he actually can put into this film.
Even if this movie gains the right talent, it still has a large challenge ahead of it. While one should never underestimate the power of fanboys. Traditionally unless your name is Lord Of The Rings or Harry Potter, fantasy movies just don't earn the big bucks. Still if this movie can be made in a fresh way, and it has a good and safe release date. If they can get some well known actors and a proven director, it may all come together.
We'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, this will turn out to be a great film. I am really longing for the next big epic fantasy movie, and a good one at that. Fingers crossed!
