Game News: Day Z Standalone Reaches 800,000 in Three Weeks

Originally a Arma 2 Mod. DayZ has grown into something quite amazing. Even in the age of indie games, Day Z has become quite a staple of PC gaming since it's days as a mod.  The original developer and a team went off to create an expansive standalone version of the Mod. It hit early access in mid-December and has since gone onto sell 800,000 download in under a month. Much more then developer expectations.

In it's first 12 hours the game managed to push around 88,000 unique downloads and was gaining new registrations, about 200 per second.  The game will most definitely reach over 1 million in sales, and this number good greatly increase as soon as it's finished development and released fully.

Dean Hall wrote in a reddit post "We ([publisher Bohemia Interactive] and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already, however this amount of sales was completely unexpected,Honestly, 250k within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy. We'll be finalizing our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap"

It's important to remember that games in early access are very much still in development, and thus are not fully finished. The thing that you play, is not indicative of the final product, so purchase at your own risk. Unless you are absolutely sure this game is gonna be everything you expect it to be, wait until the full version is available.

However, this is great news for the creators. Too see there hard-work pay off, and enjoyed by so many...it's the most rewarding feeling.
