The story of Tarzan is one that has been adapted multiple times. the most notable(and the one I actually remember) is the Disney-adapted cartoon Tarzan, complete with a soundtrack by Phil Collins. After a period of relative silence Warner Bros. is moving ahead with their upcoming live action adaption of the book, with a release date slated for July 1st 2016, and of course it will be in 3D.
Alexander SkarsgÄrd(True Blood) will play the infamous Tarzan, Margot Robbie(The Wolf Of Wall Street) will play Jane Porter, the main love interest. Christopher Waltz(Django Unchained) and Samuel L.Jackson(You should know this guy, if you don't you've been living under a rock) will both play unannounced roles in the upcoming film. I would assume that both will play the film's antagonists.
The adaption will be helmed by David Yates, who should be best known as the director of the final four harry potter films. Jerry Weintraub(Ocean's Eleven) will serve as producer.
The story of Tarzan is a classic, everyone should pretty much know how it will play out. It fits the classic structure that hollywood loves to milk. I wouldn't expect it's plot to be "something we've never seen before." However, I do hope that this film will be good, it has some pretty talented actors attached to it, and David Yates has proved he can handle large-scale films as evident with the Harry Potter franchise.
The bigger question is how will audiences react to the movie. Considering the live-action Jungle Book remake is coming from Disney with Jon Favreau attached to direct. If these projects were to come out in the same year, it could be disastrous for both, giving such similarities in the story-line and I doubt anyone would want to revisit the jungle location twice even if there is a huge difference in directing style. We'll just have to wait and see.
