Today, Sony has announced that it's brand new console PS4, has sold 2.1 million units since it's launch on November 15th. This shouldn't come as surprise, as in the U.S the console sold one million units in it's first 24 hours, making it the most successful console launch in history. In the UK the system surpassed the PSP as fastest selling console selling 250,000 unites in 48 hours.
Here is what Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House had to say on the milestone " It's an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn't have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead. While PS4's capabilities will continue to evolve, our commitment to gamers and breakthrough entertainment remains steadfast. We believe that video games represent the pinnacle of artistry and entertainment, and we will work tirelessly to make sure that PlayStation remains the best place to play. Thank you for your passion and your support - we couldn't have done this without you."
Sony has previously stated that they hope to sell 5 Million units by March 2014, given the fact that it's already sitting at 2.1 million and it still hasn't been released in all it's territories yet, I believe they may well reach or surpass there outlined goals.
Whether you like Sony or not, if you put this in perspective, it's a pretty exciting for the game industry, this is showing that video games and consoles are very healthy right now. Regardless of were your allegiance lies it's still great to hear these figures. I'm sure the flame wars will continue between fan bases, but if there is one thing we should all agree on, that this is pretty exciting and awesome news.
