The online retail giant Amazon, has revealed it's new system Prime Air. This new delivery system is designed to bring it's costumers packages, delivering them in 30 minutes or less, bu unmanned aerial vehicles(basically drones". While it may seem like science fiction the retailer is confident it can reach commercial operations saying "from a technology point of view, we’ll be ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place"
The US Federal Aviation Administration is currently determining what regulations need to be in place in order for these drones to share U.S skies with traditional aircraft. Amazon hopes it will reach it's decision by 2015.
The retailer said about it's vehicles " It'll be built with multiple redundancies and designed to commercial aviation standards" and that seeing it's prime air drones "will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road today."
Could this be the future of online retail? or the future of delivery in general. If this works out for them, i wonder how long it will be before other retailers start offering this type of service. This sounds scary to me in a lot of ways, But I mostly want to hear what you have to say.
