James Cameron has struck a deal with the country of New Zealand to film three additional sequels to the ultra-successful Avatar. The goverment of New Zealand, Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox all reached a 412 million dollar deal, which is in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding
A Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) is basically a document that details the relationship between the director and the filmmakers. 20th Century Fox will receive incentives for advertising New Zealand through promotion and DVD special Features. Employing New Zealand Workers and providing an internship program.
Cameron had this to say about the announcement "We had such a wonderful experience here making the first film, and obviously the result of all of the talent in New Zealand speaks for itself. It's a great pleasure for us to recreate that winning combination"
It should come as no surprise that there will be multiple sequels, the film has grossed over 2 billion dollars world wide. It was the biggest movie of 2009 and ranks in as the Highest grossing film of all time, and second behind only Gone With The Wind, when adjusted for Inflation. It also launched one of the most annoying trends in Hollywood...3-D...So thank you for that James Cameron.
