Last Monday, Paul Walker was killed on his way to a charity event. Paul Walker was a passenger in his friend Roger Rodas's car. Roger, lost control of his car and both lost their lives in the accident. Paul walker was only 40, still very young and at his prime and was set to star in the seventh Fast & Furious film, what would have been his 6th outing. He is survived by his daughter Meadow.
His Facebook confirmed the news, saying this " It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide," the post reads. "He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences"
His official twitter also had this to say " Since his rise to popularity in the late '90s, Walker appeared in a number of high profile Hollywood films, including Pleasantville, Varsity Blues and Flags of Our Fathers. But it is his role as Brian O'Connor in the Fast & the Furious for which he will be best remembered, having starred in a total of six films in Universal's high octane action franchise since 2001. Walker's death will inevitably leave a massive hole in any subsequent installments."
Universal also released an official statement " All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast & Furious films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."
Universal and director James Wan held a conference call to discuss how to proceed with making Fast & Furious 7 that is respectful to the late Paul Walker. Details on re-writes or casting changes won't be determined until the cast has had time to process and grieve. Shooting was halfway through completion before he lost his life, the film is still planned for July 11th 2014.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who want them to stop production on this film, out of respect for him. But there has been a lot of money sunk into this film, too much to scrap it. It might not meet it's July release, it may get pushed back a couple months to allow time for re-shoots and re-writes. The question here is, how will they proceed, and how will they handle it, in terms of story. His character is one of the more central ones.
