Despite its promises to do many things, Sony's latest console won't support 3D Blu Rays at launch. It'll play Blu Ray DVDs and regular DVDS just fine, with CD support coming in a patch later on. PS3 will still be able to play your 3D Blu Ray DVDS just fine. Which makes this move pretty interesting on their part.Sony hasn't made any announcement if it'll be patched in on a later date yet. Sony used to be the strongest supporters for 3D in the home format but recently they've done a complete 180 on their support and are no longer pushing 3D on the consumer base.
I can't say that this a disappointment, as i'm not a huge fan of 3D at all. While it may be enough of a draw to get people out to the movies, or just to charge us more for a movie ticket, That's not translating well into the home space. Most TV's dont support 3D and Sony's 3D TV's were to expensive for Consumers too buy into what most feel is a gimmick. This is probably saved money for Sony in the long run. If you were planning on buying PS4 for the sole purpose of having a 3D Blu-Ray player, then you're out of luck. There's always your PS3 though.
