Today Universal announced the official release date for the purge sequel. The thriller will hit theaters on June 20th entering the summer slot, releasing in the same month the original film did. The first film was quite a sucssse earning 89 million on a 3 million dollar budget. Blumhouse Productions and Platnium dunes will retun alongside The Purge's writer and director James DeMonaco to produce the film. There hasn't been any casting announcements but we'll here something soon as it seems production is going to go full steam ahead before the end of the year.
The purge is a relatively small and can be made cheaply, we might see a small budgetary increase but other then that it won't be a huge blockbuster like other films hitting the summer slot. I haven't personally seen the film but it seems to have drawn in an audience. Creatively wise obviously a sequel is a mistake but business wise, its hard to argue.
