Movie News: Thor 2 Scores Big This Weekend

The sequel to Marvel's successful Thor was met with huge success in it's opening weekend. In the U.S it topped the charts and opened with a 86 million dollar debut. It was already tracking big on Friday night screenings pulling in around 31 million dollars. Thursday International previews earned 7.1 million and on it's opening weekend it pulled in 180 million dollars world wide. The total box office income is 327 million against a 170 million budget. The film is directed by Alan Taylor who is also slated to direct Terminator 5. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston Anthony Hopkins, Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd, Idris Elba and Kat Dennings.

It's no surprise at all that this film is as successful as it is. People love Thor and the ladies think he is a hunk. The real trick is too see how much momentum it has going into next weekend. November doesn't normally see a huge turn out for viewers. I'm pretty sure, that when marvel produces Thor 3 it'll take this slot as well. Of course marvel has two big movies coming next year, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy. We'll see exactly how those stack up against each other. If momentum keeps up i can see it earning 600 to 700 million in total if it drops off in the second week, then a 500 million return seems likely.
