Yep, that's right WoW fans, before the fifth World Of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Dreanor has hit the shelves Blizzard is already working on it's follow up. Blizzard's Co-founder Mike Morhaime sat in interview with Polygon to explain exactly why the rush.
Mike said in the interview: "It's going to be on us to and our development team to continually look at ways to evolve the game and keep it relevant, and look for new ways of maintaining engagement within the game. We view expansions as a huge opportunity to do that. We recognize that we need to release them on a faster cadence than we have in the past. So we're investing in the team and our resources to enable us to do that."
He later added: We also have to start looking further down the road and planning further out. We've already started working on the expansion after this one [Warlords of Draenor]. We've never done that in the past. We've been doing one expansion at a time, sort of a very linear content creation model, and we've looked at ways that we can parallelize that. So that while we're working on this expansion we're looking at the new one.
It's not exactly surprising, WoW fans might be in a bubble about this, but the subscription numbers for this game are dwindling. Thanks to the rise in popularity of Free to Play MMO's and games such as LoL and DOTA. Blizzard want's WoW to hold on to it's crown a little longer, and they're hoping releasing more frequent content will keep it fresh faced and young. I honestly can't see WoW existing for much longer, with their new free to play DOTA style game Heroes of The Storm coming out soon it may start to Canabilze WoW.
