Video Game News: UK Study Shows No Link Between Violence and Video Games

A study in the UK that was held for an entire decade has published interesting results, and in my opinion not at all surprising. The study focused on 11,000 UK boys and girls, from the age of five and up and observed them as they entered teen and adulthood. The study was published in British Medical Journal and determined that exposure to video games from the age of five did not cause behavior, attention or emotional issues. Watching TV or playing video games does not seem to affect attention or emotional issues.

However, the study did find that exposure to over three hours of TV did have a small increase on behavioral issues. This study was apart of the UK Millennium Cohort Study which was designed to determined the effect of screen entertainment on a child's psychological development. Most studies tend to focus on TV especially ones of this length. This is one of the first studies to separate TV and Video Games.

Even though I personally don't believe that video games cause violence in individuals, I feel i would be doing a disservice if i didn't mention that I could not find any information on how long these kids played video games and it is only a small section of children, compared to the rest of the world. It is by no means a conclusive study, but it is apart of a fast growing pile of evidence that debunk the theory that it's the cause of violent acts.
